History
The Vernon Advent Christian Home began in concept in 1919 when the wife of the pastor of the Vernon Advent Christian Church applied her vision for a senior retirement home to a neighboring hotel up for sale. First serving retired pastors and missionaries, Vernon Home has grown steadily.
We expanded beyond the South Vernon Hotel in 1955, buying a residence on 30 acres to create the original 15-bed Vernon Green Nursing Home. We constructed a new 35-bed Medicare and Medicaid certified Vernon Green facility in 1966, and added a 20-bed wing in 1972. The same year saw the completion of Vernon Hall, our 38-unit congregate living facility, and the sale of the original Vernon Home. We completed the 15-apartmentVernon Birches in 1978. In 1985 we added a
wing to Vernon Green that provided rooms for five more residents. In keeping with our philosophy of dignity and respect, we joined a small, but nationwide movement in 1987 by eliminating all physical restraints for residents. Our innovative Special Needs Unit for those with Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive disorders opened its doors in 1988. Most recently, in the fall of 2003, we implemented a $2.3 million renovation project that upgraded Vernon Hall and its 38 apartments to a licensed Assisted Living facility, effectively creating a complete continuum of elderly care.
As plans for even more exciting advancements continue to unfold, Vernon Home will always stay true to the spirit of service and caring with which it began.
